Fresh iPhone Apps for June 28: DataMan Pro, YP Yellow Pages, Cars 2, Transformers

Today’s Fresh iPhone Apps are positioned to keep you informed and save you money. DataMan Pro tracks your iPhone’s data usage to help users keep from going over their monthly allotments, and provides statistics on all your data usage. YP Yellow Pages for iPhone is all the information of the Yellow Pages on your phone, but it also provides you with deals for businesses in your area. Meanwhile, in games, summer is upon us and that means blockbuster movies and games to go with them. To that end, we’ve got Transformers: Dark of the Moon, which lets you play the story of the movie, and Cars 2, a 2-D driving game that features characters and locales from Pixar’s film.

DataMan Pro (iPhone) $1.99

DataMan Pro is built to save you money. It does that by monitoring your iPhone’s data usage to make sure you don’t break the cap on your monthly plan and incur additional fees. Rather than just keep track of your total data usage, however, the app monitors it every 10 minutes, and builds statistics for your usage so you can see how much data you consume each day, month or whatever. The idea is that with all this information, you can choose the data plan you need – not the one you think you need.

There’s other info that DataMan provides as well. For example, it can geotag your usage to show you where you’re using data and whether your connection is 3G, EDGE, or whatever, so you can make adjustments to your usage to keep your costs down. The app also works with all carriers, so you can get any information you need regardless of who your contract is with.

A phone book in your hands, complete with all the directory listings you’d expect – that’s YP Yellow Pages for iPhone. The app is filled with useful information, allowing you to search by text or voice for businesses in your geographic area – as many as 18 million of them are listed. Inside, YP packs all kinds of information for each listed business, like user reviews and ratings, hours, phone numbers and more.

YP also includes some features to help save money. Like services such as Groupon, it not only lists local businesses, it shows deals in your area as well, allowing you to go seek them out. Also like Groupon, you can save and redeem deals on your phone and scroll through them quickly. And you can share the business you find and enjoy using social networks like Twitter and Facebook on top of by text and email.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon (iPhone, iPad) $2.99

Just in time for the third blockbuster Transformers film to hit theaters comes the Transformers: Dark of the Moon tie-in game. The game follows the story of the film, putting players in the role of Optimus Prime and Bumblebee in a 3-D, top-down game that uses elements of two-stick shooters mixed with a hearty dose of robots turning into cars. You’ll fight through 13 levels in Transfomers, battling Decepticons all the way as you transform between vehicle and robot modes and upgrade your weapons to be more deadly. The game also includes five bosses to take down, including the iconic Megatron and other Decepticons like Shockwave.

Cars 2 (iPhone, iPad) $0.99

Another game based on a popular movie, Cars 2 lets you drive through various 2-D environments and play as film characters Mater, McQueen, Holley and Finn as you blast through three locations from the film. In each level, you’ll use a combination of touch and tilt controls to dodge objects in your path and collect objects to keep your car repaired and rack up a high score.

Each level dishes out a score out of three stars, and you can replay each level to bring up your performance and raise your score. The quicker your reflexes, the faster you’ll complete each level and the higher your placement will be in each. Game Center support means you’ll unlock achievements for your efforts, and your scores will be ranked against other Cars 2 players on the game’s online leaderboards.
