Fresh iPhone Apps for Feb. 14: MrChocolate, MusicMapper, myDate TrackerAlert

It’s Valentine’s Day, so today’s Fresh Apps list has a couple of items that can help the day go smoothly, as well as safely. Check out MrChocolate for some romantic dessert ideas, and myDate TrackerAlert for an app that can help keep others in the know about your whereabouts during a date with someone you don’t know well. The Grammy Awards also just took place, so we’ve got an app for music fans, too.

MrChocolate (iPhone) Free

“Eat more chocolate” is the recommendation of Jacques Torres, a pastry chef and chocolateer behind the MrChocolate app. It’s basically a portal to Torres’ chocolate factory, connecting users to videos and information about the business and all kinds of different desserts made there.

Primarily, MrChocolate lets you watch video of Torres in action — subjects include the history of chocolate and behind-the-scenes tours of the factory. There’s also a chocolate-related glossary and links to a store for the purchase of all kinds of desserts, as well as a whole bunch of photos. If chocolate is what your sweetheart wants for Valentine’s Day, this is an app that might be able to help out.

MusicMapper (iPhone, iPad) Free

Using your iPhone’s GPS technology, MusicMapper encourages users to connect the music they hear with memories and locations. Once you’ve signed-up for the service, you can select songs and tag them to maps, then add notes about the song and the moment it represents.

Once you’re set with MusicMapper, you can keep track of your musical “journey,” or check out the tags of other users. There is also exclusive content created for the Grammy Awards and connectivity with Flickr and Foursquare, as well as the ability to see other people’s geo-located music tweets.

myDate TrackerAlert (iPhone) Free

Going on a date for Valentine’s Day with someone you don’t know well? Bring along myDate TrackerAlert — which is free today — and you can set check-in information with where you’ll be, who with, and for how long, so that friends and family can stay up-to-date with when to expect you back.

With myDate Tracker, you can send text updates about your plans to another location without necessarily having to make calls to friends or family to let them know what your plans are. If the date gets canceled, you can just delete the myDate file, and the alerts to myDate still go out, even if your phone is turned off. It’s a “safety first” kind of app, but it’s better to be safe and have a fun Valentine’s Day, than sorry.
