Fresh iPhone Apps for Feb. 10: Skype update, The Beatles LOVE, CardStar update

We’ve got a few cool updates for you on today’s Fresh Apps list. Skype has expanded its functionality to allow you to call more devices using the app and your 3G or Wi-Fi Internet coverage, and CardStar has integrated Groupon support into its loyalty card-saving app functionality. Read about both, and more, below.

Skype update (iPhone, iPad) Free

Another interesting update has come to Skype, expanding its VoIP capabilities to allow you to make Skype calls from your iPhone to other devices, including Skype for TV. It’s pretty simple, and yet adds a lot more people to the list of those who can be called while you’re out in the world.

Skype’s last big update increased the service’s capabilities for placing calls. You can utilize Skype over a Wi-Fi connection or with your iPhone’s 3G service and your data allowance, allowing you to make video calls (or any other kind) to other Skype users from just about anywhere.

The Beatles LOVE (Free)

Combining the music of The Beatles and the visuals of Cirque du Soleil, The Beatles LOVE app gives you access to music and video from the Cirque show that’s currently featured at The Mirage Casino in Las Vegas. The app contains video clips of the show and gives you access to ticket offers and news about The Beatles LOVE, as well.

There’s actually a fair wealth of information about the show included in the app. You’ll be able to check out photos and read biography information about the people who conceived the shows and its music, including George Harrison and Paul McCartney. And while you’re reading, The Beatles LOVE lets you stream music to play, as well.

CardStar update (iPhone) Free

With CardStar, you can store the loyalty cards you carry around in your wallet — things like a Best Buy Rewardzone card or a Starbucks card, for example — in your iPhone. The app allows you to use your smartphone’s screen as a replacement for your cards. When you want to use them at businesses, just hold up your smartphone with the right bar code displayed, and cashiers can scan the screen to send you your rewards.

In addition to storing loyalty cards, CardStar just got a handy new update: Groupon supprt. Now you can use just the one app for all your loyalty and deal-related items. Pull up the Groupon coupon you want to use and flash it at the business, and you’re on your way.
