The New York Times lends its global reporting to the International Herald Tribune, which takes a global slant on news, sports and business. You can nab this app for free until early next year, with full access to all sections after you register from inside it.
The app features international news stories from all over the world, plus a sports section that includes coverage of soccer, tennis, Formula One racing, plus U.S. mainstays like baseball and football. You’ll also get complete access to the Tribune’s columnists, plus its “Day in Pictures” section, which puts together a slide show of interesting images to go with the day’s news, and a featured videos section that does the same thing, but in motion.
OnLive Viewer (iPad) Free
The subscription-based, streaming PC gaming service OnLive is an intriguing concept, but its new app has a whole different idea of cool — it makes it possible to watch PC game matches on your phone or iPad. Okay, that might sound kind of super-nerdy to the uninitiated; but if you haven’t watched internationally ranked players nuke each other’s armies in a StarCraft II tournament, you’re missing out.
In addition to the ability to spectate on various game matches, OnLive Viewer also contains a lot of standard, but necessary, social features from the service. A friends list is chief among them, allowing you to see what your buddies are playing regardless of your location, and you can also watch trailers and get information about upcoming games.

Here’s an app that’s just sublimely evil. Getting a song stuck in your head is awful, but getting a song stuck in someone else’s head? Brilliant. The guys at Sideways LLC have designed a weaponized music missile with this app, designed to prank friends and annoy enemies.
Use the app to email some terrible song to friends, coworkers, neighbors, people who owe you money: tracks like Achy Breaky Heart and Poker Face that will sit with them for days, cycling around their brains in a maddening loop. Sure, the retaliation might be worse — don’t be surprised if you wake up to someone standing out front of your place blaring The Macarena — but escalation is a fact of all warfare, right?
