Fresh iPhone Apps for Dec. 29: 8mm Vintage Camera, VLC Streamer, Squarespace for iPad

You’ve probably heard of Hipstamatic, the acclaimed iPhone app that takes awesome vintage photos; leading our Fresh Apps list today is 8mm Vintage Camera, a video recording app that is a lot like Hipstamatic and creates old-style video. Read all about it, and more, below.

8mm Vintage Camera (iPhone) $1.99

Yeah, we know — another photography app. But like the acclaimed Hipstamatic, 8mm Vintage creates video meant to replicate an old-style eight-millimeter camera by using 25 different effects.

The app comes with five different “lenses” and five more “film types,” and different combinations of the two create various pictures. You can also add “frame jitter” to your recordings for a more authentic 8mm experience, and export your films to YouTube, email and iTunes straight out of the app.

VLC Streamer (iPhone) $0.99

It can be tough getting all your movies, music and photos crammed onto an iPhone, especially with one of the smaller storage models. VLC Streamer helps with that, at least a little, by allowing you to stream your videos from an online server over a Wi-FI connection.

After downloading some software to your PC, you can use it to load-up videos and send them along to your iPhone. The only drawback is a need for an Internet connection to watch your media, but the tradeoff of keeping your phone’s hard drive free is generally worth it.

Squarespace for iPad Free

Customers of Squarespace’s online blogging service will get a lot of use out of this app, which basically gives you access to your blog’s dashboard from wherever you are. While Squarespace is a paid service, the iPad app is free, and allows you to blog on the go with your iOS device.

You can post full blogs from the app, as well as approve or block comments and make other changes to your Squarespace site. You’ll also be able to add photos and access multiple Squarespace pages, as well as get access to your website statistics without any additional hassle.
