Fresh iPhone Apps for Dec. 21: Buy.com update, SimplePlayer, Stella McCartney

Still need to do some holiday shopping before Christmas? Our leading Fresh App today might help — it’s an update for Buy.com’s shopping mobile app that incorporates barcode scanning to help make sure you get the best price on your gifts this season. Grab it, and a couple of other cool offerings, on our list below.

Buy.com update (iPhone) Free

The official app for Buy.com, the online shopping hub, allows you to search for products, watch video reviews about them through the app, and even make purchases straight from your phone, wherever you are. It works a lot like other shopping apps, but it allows you to compare prices at various retailers with Buy.com to make sure you’re getting the best prices for the things you’re looking to buy.

The new update for Buy.com adds one useful feature: you can use your iPhone’s camera to scan the barcodes of products you find as you’re shopping in brick-and-mortar stores, allowing you to make sure you’re getting the best price every time you make a purchase.

SimplePlayer (iPhone, iPad) Free

It can be tough to keep up on what’s new in music, especially when listening to the radio can be kind of hit-and-miss if you’re not a fan of the Top 40. SimplePlayer makes it a little easier to find new tracks to listen to, allowing you to search for music track-by-track and stream it to your iOS device. If you find something you like, you can share it with others via email or connect with various social networking platforms.

If you aren’t sure what you want to hear, SimplePlayer allows you to page through popular songs. You can also set the app to play in the background so you can do other things while still listening to your music selections.

Stella McCartney (iPad) Free

Stella McCartney, clothing designer and daughter of rock star and former Beatle Paul McCartney, just released this iPad magazine that gives you instant access to what’s going on in her world.

As well as updates on the latest news from Stella’s fashion HQ, there’s a sneak peek at the new Autumn/Winter collection, previously unseen footage from backstage at a recent catwalk show, some exclusive music performances, and, just in time for Christmas, details of Stella’s faux black leather iPad case with a chain trim from her Falabella collection.
