Fresh iPhone Apps for Dec. 15: Tap to Facebook Chat, ESRB Rating Search, and more

Facebook chat junkie? You’ll want to read all about Tap to Facebook Chat, a new app that leads our Fresh Apps list today which lets you use your mobile iOS device to keep your conversations going. Grab it, and a couple of other cool apps, from our list below.

Tap to Facebook Chat (iPhone, iPad) $1.99

You read the name of this app, so you already know exactly what it does — it allows you to tap into your Facebook account and access the social networking site’s instant messaging feature. You can pull up your friends list from the site and message them as if you were sending texts, basically, but you do it over your Wi-Fi or 3G Internet connection.

Tap to Facebook Chat features multi-user access, so you and anyone who shares your iPad or iPod Touch can all use the same app to talk. You can also set it to give you push notifications with multitasking, to keep you in the conversation while you’re doing other things.

ESRB Rating Search App update (iPhone, iPad) Free

Over the last few weeks, we’ve shown you a lot of apps for shopping during the holiday season, including a few meant to help you find information on new video games while you’re in the store. ESRB Rating Search is ideal for shoppers in the market for games, but is especially handy for parents or family members who are shopping for players but might not be particularly savvy about the industry.

You can use ESRB Rating Search to quickly get ratings information about video games — those little symbols on the front of the game such as E, T and M — to find out what age groups a game is suited for. The recent update to the app lets you search the ESRB database by snapping a photo of the game you’re trying to learn about, giving you all the information you need to make an informed purchasing decision, right on your iPhone.

Game GiveAway (iPhone, iPad) Free

Though it’s been out for a couple of weeks, I only just learned about Game GiveAway and figured it was too cool not to share. Guess what it does? It gives iPhone and iPad games away.

Just like services such as Free App A Day, Game GiveAway gives you access to a new paid game every day that’s free for just 24 hours. There’s a new game every day, plus a list of paid games and free featured games that you can learn about and download too.
