Fortnite for iOS Has Finally Arrived

As a game that has players eliminating each other from a map that gets smaller, only one person can remain victorious which introduces a competitive element like never before. Furthermore, players are able to build and destroy different elements of the environment which makes it extremely dynamic as there are endless possibilities to explore. Given the different features that are made possible through the game, Fortnite has been widely popular, especially over Twitch where players are able to live-stream their gameplay to others. As the game has been immensely popular among all age groups, it is logical for the developers, Epic Games, to expand the offerings to the mobile market as a result of the large number of gamers on mobile systems as opposed to dedicated gaming consoles. Furthermore, the game is said to be cross-platform so that players of different consoles are able to play with one another across different device types.

As more people have mobile phones as opposed to gaming consoles and desktop computers that are capable of running such a game, introducing a mobile version enables many more people are around the world to play the game rather than simply watch others play it. This has been reflected in the estimated $1.5 million of in-app purchases that have been made since its release as one of the fastest growing games available in the mobile space.

At 126 megabytes, Fortnite is a game that is quite large relative to other apps while the early nature of the game coupled with the influx of new players has caused performance issues where players experience lag and disconnection to the servers. However, this has not stopped millions from downloading the app with a cumulative rating of 4.5 out of nearly 400,000 ratings, making it one of the highest rated games on the App Store.

As a highly anticipated game that is widely popular among all ages, the introduction of Fortnite into the mobile space has been a massive success for Epic Games. Although the app is currently only available for iOS users, its release for the Android market is estimated to be relatively soon given the success that has been gained for the iOS version. Given that the game has recently come off of the restricted private testers and invite-only model, it is a game that is likely to grow significantly as a result of its increased access to those without dedicated gaming consoles or desktop gaming computers.
