Foodie iPhone Apps: Where to Eat?

Feb 27, 2011

I love to try new restaurants and different types of food, but when it comes down to the question, “Where should we eat?” I often find that my mind is blank, which may be another problem entirely. Regardless of my memory capabilities, with these apps, you should never find yourself without and answer to the so often asked, “What’s for dinner?”

Bizzy for iPhone

Bizzy lets you connect with your favorite restaurants, and suggests new ones to you based upon what it learns from yours and your friends favorites. This allows you to view only recommendations that are likely to fit your tastes instead of everyone else’s!

One of the most widely known review sites allows you to view ratings and reviews, check-in to locations, and even use augmented reality to see what is nearby.

Urbanspoon – Restaurant & Food Reviews

The famous app that occupied some of the original iPhone commercials is still one of my favorites. By randomizing categories like locations, style of food, and price range, you can “Shake” to spin the reels and get an automated suggestion of where to dine.

Dallas Observer City App

Unfortunately, this only works for Dallas, but the Observer app allows you to browse through different types of cuisine and read articles written by the Dallas Observer about the local fare, with ups and downs of each establishment.

Localscope – Find places and people around you

As the name suggests, this app allows you to scope out many things including restaurants in your local environment through augmented reality, list, or map features. You can choose to view your results from Google, Bing, Foursquare, Twitter, or Wikimapia
