Five fine iPhone apps to spice up your fall cuisine

Are the temperatures falling almost as fast as the balance in your checking account? Save some money this fall by rekindling your love for cooking at home for your family and friends. Here are a few iPhone apps that are sure to inspire you in the kitchen and spice up your home life this fall.

Veggie Love Cookbook

The fine folks at Better Homes and Gardens offer the Veggie Love Cookbook app ($0.99) for vegetarians and veggie-challenged cooks alike. It’s a cute little cooking app with approximately 50 family-friendly recipes for any season’s fresh produce. The app comes with a handy timer and cooking tips for veggies. If you’ve ever picked up a butternut squash at your local fall farmer’s market and stared it, wondering what in the heck to do with it once you got it home, than this app is for you. I’m craving the choco-zucchini cupcakes recipe!

Good Food One-Pot Recipes

Fall is perfect chili weather. Up your pot-cooking game with the Good Food One-Pot Recipes app ($2.99) and get inspired to cook some more adventurous one-pot meals like butternut squash casserole, cauliflower and chickpea pilaf, and goulash in a dash. Extras in the app includes one-pot cooking tips, the perfect side dishes to accompany your one-pot recipes, and suggested substitutions for when the recipes are just slightly off with ingredients for your taste.

Hummingbird Bakery Cake Days

Spice up your fall baked good selection with recipes from the Hummingbird Bakery Cake Days app ($4.99). There is a whole section on Halloween & Bonfire recipes with selections such as Butterscotch Marshmallow Bars, Pumpkin Whoopie Pies and Spiderweb Cheesecake. I’m going bananas over the Coffee and Chocolate Loaf recipe as well as the Spiced Apple Cake with Brown Sugar Frosting. The design of this adorable recipe app is delightful, featuring easy-to-understand instructions with complementary delectable photography, and some recipes even have accompanying video for your baking enjoyment.

Trufflehead

Looking for some new cold-weather comfort food recipes? Look no further than the Trufflehead app ($1.99). Its intuitive set-up makes it easy to search for exactly the type of recipe you are looking for whether a side dish, entrée, dessert or even by breakfast, lunch and dinner. I love the Balsamic and Sweet Onion Pot Roast, Bourbon Pecan Sweet Potatoes and Maple Walnut Brown Rice and Yogurt “Pudding” recipes for a fine fall supper. This smart cooking app also features a “references” section with information on techniques, sweeteners and more.

KitchenAid – The Cookbook

So you sprung for that oh-so pretty and mighty expensive KitchenAid mixer that just sits on your counter (looking pretty like it was supposed to), a constant reminder that you don’t cook. Branch out this fall and download the free KitchenAid – The Cookbook app for your iPhone and experiment with your fancy kitchen appliance. Try your mixer at homemade pasta dough, various kinds of pastries and much more with the help of this app.
