Your iPad called, and said for you to get off the couch and hit the gym! FitnessClass for iPad has arrived just in time to make you feel guilty about slacking on your health-related New Year’s resolutions. It’s packed with useful content, but it can be a little overwhelming, and might end up costing you as much as a gym membership.

Sign up for a free account, and enter your profile info the first time you launch the app. It includes height, weight, activity level and social network credentials so you can track your health goals, and brag to your friends.

From there, browse through the FitnessClass store’s massive collection of workout videos. Tap between “New,” “Most Popular,” “Featured” or “Bundles” — a collection of videos. Another filter lets you sort based on video length, exercise type, equipment required and other options. The idea being you purchase individual videos or bundles that interest you, and they become part of your FitnessClass library. All video content streams from the web, so the app doesn’t eat up your iPad’s storage. You purchase either a 30-day pass for a few dollars or a forever pass for a few more dollars. This is where you could end up dropping as much cash as you do on a monthly gym fee.

The workout videos are very good. They come from PumpOne, the creator of the FitnessClass app, and many other workout video companies. All feature hard-body instructors guiding your through exercises. Some are created specifically for the iPad, with bars showing the time left and even reminders to take a break and drink some water.

Unless you already know the type of workouts you enjoy, you might feel overwhelmed by all the content available in FitnessClass, but for those who want to carry their iPads to their gym or workout area of their house, the app should be a good workout buddy.
