There are no shortage of fishing apps available for the iPhone, though most of them are fishing games that range from incredibly cheesy to pretty decent.
But unlike the iFishing’s and 3D Power Fishing’s of the world, Fish Tracker is a 99-cent app that can be used when you are actually fishing, as opposed to simulating it on your phone.
Actually, Fish Tracker isn’t so much a fishing app, but more of a GPS app. When you find a lucky fishing spot that you’d like to remember, this tool allows you to save the location as well as the date and time.
You can then open up past locations in a map (outside of the app, unfortunately). They don’t advertise a limit on the number of locations you can save, but I was able to save about 100 entries, so that shouldn’t be an issue for anyone.
Though the locations weren’t exact, they were pretty close. The app does also give you a plus-minus estimation every time you save a location, and again, it works well enough for what it is.
In the end, I have mixed feeling about Fish Tracker. On one hand, I hate it when extremely limited apps such as this cost money, even if it’s as little as 99 cents.
On the other hand, I love it when apps offer things that are unique to the iPhone and they integrate other features from the mobile device. This app definitely scores on both those accounts, and I think people will appreciate that more than they will be disappointed at the lack of features.
