Facebook Messenger already top free iPhone app

In what could be the ultimate appetizer to an official iPad application, Facebook yesterday unveiled the dedicated Facebook Messenger messaging app. Within hours, it rose to become the top free iPhone app in the iTunes App Store.

Facebook Messenger, which was also released for Android devices, is a somewhat surprising release for a company known to be focusing on HTML5 development over native applications. Stay tuned for more news and developments – and our video reviews – of the Facebook Messenger app on the iOS and Android platforms.
