Ellen iPhone app does branded apps right with exclusive content

To celebrate her 52nd birthday, comedienne, new American Idol host, wacky dancer and talk show maven Ellen DeGeneres did what any other well-liked celebrity would do: She launched her very own iPhone app, Ellen.

Yes, this free iPhone app is for die-hard Ellen fans, but would you really expect that the app would be designed for anyone else? What I like most about Ellen’s iPhone app is the fact that she is providing her fans with exclusive content they can’t find on her regular Web site. What’s more, it’s content that Ellen is creating herself via her iPhone, such as backstage video of her staff and guests.

In addition, Ellen’s iPhone app offers plenty of video clips that are updated daily. The app is ad-supported with banners and video, and while I didn’t find the video quality stellar over 3G, I did like that I could browse  other videos while it streamed.

Overall, Ellen offers a convenient place for any fan to get their Ellen fix. Within the iPhone app, users will also find Ellen’s often-updated blog, Ellen’s Twitter stream, the app’s most viewed content and a way to mark clips and articles as favorites.
