That spooky night of fun and fear is fast approaching. Whether you are young or old, here are some hauntingly fun and trick-or-treat friendly iPhone apps to ensure a spectacularly spooky Halloween.

Hauntingly Fun iPhone Games for Adults

The Scene It? Horror app ($1.99) brings crazy cool clips and terrifying trivia from all of your favorite Halloween movies like Saw, Scream, Friday the 13th and the Halloween series to your iPhone. You can play one of the 30 games either alone or with a group in “Death Match” mode. You can also challenge other owners of the app over a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection. Or, just use it to terrify friends and family with the bonus scream machine.

As if Angry Birds could get any more fun! The devilishly fun Angry Birds have hatched a Halloween addition that adds pumpkin smashing to pig pulverizing. The Angry Birds Halloween app (99 cents) for iPhone has 45 new levels of bird launching conundrums to keep you busy well into that bulging bowl of trick-or-treat candy.

Love word games? Check out the free Halloween Chicktionary Lite app for iPhone. It has all the same word puzzle enjoyment as the original Chicktionary app — only dressed up for Halloween. If you secure the farm by solving the 13 included puzzles, upgrade to the full version of Halloween Chicktionary for $1.99.

If you are addicted to America’s favorite serial killer, “Dexter,” check out the free Dexter app from Showtime. Not only does this app have a fun and social Dexter trivia game, but you can also watch the first episode of Season Five for free and preview clips weekly from upcoming episodes.

Trick or Treat Apps for the Little Ones

The free UNICEF USA iPhone app brings “Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF” into the social media and texting age. Now you can teach your little ones the importance of giving back without sending them around with a little orange box asking for donations thanks to virtual trick-or-treating. Parents (and children) can use this app to text requests to friends and family for donations to the charity. The app also includes a super fun and safe way to carve virtual jack-o-lanterns, then share the pumpkin creations via quick links to social networks and more.

Toddlers will love the story of tolerance and self-acceptance that is The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin app for iPhone (99 cents). Set the app to auto play and hand over to young children. On autoplay, the story is read through by a narrator, complete with spooky yet fun background noise. Does the narrator sound familiar? The app is narrated by the singer of the hit Halloween song, Monster Mash. For a more interactive experience, read aloud with your child.

Is your young one terrified of all the ghosts and goblins that appear during Halloween? Download the What Was I Scared of? – Dr. Seuss app ($1.99). Read through the classic Dr. Seuss book together to teach children that it is okay to be scared, but not to let their fear paralyze them.

If your child is braver than most, then check out the free creepOmatic app to add some spooky ambiance to your trick or treat fun. This app is a Halloween sound machine with more than 130 creepy melodies.
