Download Discounts for Mar. 11: Dead Space for iPad, World of Goo HD, Spider-Man

In anticipation of the release of the iPad 2, a bunch of iPad games have had their prices slashed so you’ll have something to play when you get home from the Apple Store. Some of my favorites — World of Goo and Dead Space among them — have had their prices reduced, as well as a bunch of other games from Gameloft and Electronic Arts. Take advantage and get some cool new games for your cool new device.

Dead Space for iPad $6.99 (was $9.99)

Lucky iPad owners get to pay the iPhone price for Dead Space, the mobile edition of the console survival horror series of the same name. In it, you play an operative codenamed Vandal, tasked with a clandestine mission of sabotage on a space station called The Sprawl that goes awry when mutated monsters start showing up. Like the larger versions of Dead Space, you have to defend yourself by cutting the limbs off your enemies, dismembering them to death.

Dead Space is pretty phenomenal on the iPhone — I greatly enjoyed it — but it’s even better with the big screen of an iPad, which makes it easier to control using the invisible touch controls found on either side of the screen. It also makes for bigger scares and more tension in the four-hour single-player mode. Take advantage of the price and get this one.

World of Goo HD (iPad) $3.99 (was $4.99)

Few puzzle games are quite as captivating or fun to look at as World of Goo, a game in which your task is to build structures out of little sentient goo guys in order to get them to a pipe that will suck them out of the level. You’re scored on your efficient and imaginative use of goo to build structures and how much you’re able to save when you reach the far side of the level, which usually requires you to make a tower or a bridge or something similar to traverse obstacles.

World of Goo is popular, extremely well-received and recipient of numerous awards. In addition to the many puzzle levels that’ll test your brain power, there’s also a running competition with a live online leaderboard to see who can build the tallest goo tower using the extra goo balls saved from the campaign stages.

Spider-Man: Total Mayhem HD (iPad) $0.99 (was $6.99)

Gameloft has really cut the price for this and many of its other games, and Spider-Man is totally worth it for a lot more than a dollar. It’s a quality action game with virtual controls and great atmosphere that takes you through a winding story and into battles with Spider-Man’s greatest villains.

Total Mayhem masters the comic book and Spidey feel for 12 levels, combining button-mashing and beat-em-up gameplay with quick-time events that require you to think and act fast to avoid getting squashed. There are also collectibles to hunt down to unlock hidden comic book art.
