Download Discounts for Jan. 5: Blind World, Twistrix, The Parks: USA

Two addictive puzzlers are free today on Download Discounts, and you’d be wise to snag both of them. BlindWorld makes excellent use of color and the iPhone’s physics capabilities, while Twistix is an solid, addictive way to waste time. Trust us — you’ll enjoy both of them. Besides, why would you want to pass up something that’s free?

Blind World (iPhone) Free (was $2.99)

A simple but innovative 2D puzzler, Blind World has you controlling a colored wheel that spreads paint on the surfaces on which it rolls. Trouble is, you can’t see those surfaces until you roll over them. The goal of each level is to cover everything in paint, so you’ll use physics to your advantage, tilting your iPhone madly in order to use gravity to get the wheel to paint shapes, walls and ceilings as well as its floor.

As puzzles get harder, the enclosed structures you find yourself painting will include free-floating objects inside them, also subservient to the will of gravity, like circles and other geometric shapes. You’ll have to think a little creatively in order to find the shapes and use gravity to paint them, as well as the walls, to get the best score possible out of each level. Blind World will keep you busy for a while, and also includes Game Center support for online leaderboards (each level is scored with points, if you’re wondering) and achievements.

Twistrix (iPhone) Free (was $0.99)

This puzzler makes good use of the iPhone’s gesture controls, allowing you to swipe the touch screen to maneuver colored beads around a metal cylinder displayed on your phone. Rotating different segments of the cylinder lets you move the beads around, with the goal of getting all the beads of a single color into the same column.

Twistrix is a pretty good deal when it’s free, because it’s definitely addictive and will continually challenge players. Jump over to the App Store and grab it while you can.

The Parks: USA (iPhone) $1.99 (was $2.99)

For not including a lot of frills, The Parks has a whole lot of content. It links you into more than 300 U.S. national parks and protected areas across the country, maps them out for you, and lets you customize your experience.

Once you’re set on a park, you can peruse its attractions and plan your trip. The app also helps you document what you see and do by adding activities and dropping in photos and notes about the parks and your visit.
