Download Discounts for Jan. 27: Death Knight, Charge Alert, Mighty Clock

Everybody likes free, right? Celebrate, uh…Thursday with our lineup of free apps in today’s Download Discounts. There’s the orc-slicing hack-and-slash role-playing game Dark Knight heading the list, an app that helps you manage your battery and keep it healthy in Charge Alert, and Mighty Clock, an alarm clock that does a lot more than just wake you up. Need more info? We’ve got it — just keep reading.

Death Knight (iPhone) Free (was $1.99)

Take on an army of orcs in this swords-and-sorcery side-scroller, which is free for a limited time and requires you to hack apart lots and lots of bad guys to make it through its 77-level campaign. Along the way, you’ll upgrade your weapons and equipment in role-playing game style, as well as earn new abilities for taking on more and more varying types of enemies.

In addition to the campaign, which is spread over five different areas, you’ll also get access to several “arena mode” levels where combat is even tougher. You’ll battle bosses among the 16 different types of enemies, so keep your wits about you and your sword unsheathed.

Charge Alert (iPhone) Free (was $0.99)

It’s a simple premise: Charge Alert lets you know when your iPhone is charged. That in itself is a good thing, seeing as overcharging your device can have detrimental effects on its battery long-term, causing it to hold a charge for less and less time and die altogether a lot sooner. Charge Alert helps you get the most out of your phone battery by letting you know when it’s fully charged.

The app also gives you a hand going in the other direction, as your iPhone’s battery is expended. You can set various alerts based on your battery level, and Charge Alert will keep you apprised of your power situation — that way, the likelihood of you being trapped without your phone at a crucial moment is greatly diminished.

Mighty Clock (iPhone) Free (was $0.99)

An abundance of clock-like features makes Mighty Clock powerful enough to be worthy of its name. It has day and night display modes to make it easier to read; music alarm capabilities that uses the music you’ve saved on your device; and soundscapes to help you fall asleep. And those are just the features you’ll probably use the most.

Mighty Clock works to give you the most you can get out of an alarm clock. You can customize the display color, funnel in GPS weather information for when you wake up, and set an unlimited number of alarms with different criteria. Mighty Clock will even help you get to the bathroom in the dark: if you shake it, it becomes a flashlight. Pretty handy.
