Download Discounts for Feb. 9: Spider-Man: Total Mayhem, Shadow Guardian, UNO

Yesterday, we told you about EA’s big game sale for Valentine’s Day. They’re not the only ones, though — Gameloft also has a bunch of its big titles marked way down. We’ve picked a few of our favorites below, but you can find more 99-cent offerings in the App Store by entering “Gameloft” in the search field.

Spider-Man: Total Mayhem (iPhone) $0.99

A third-person action game that puts Spider-Man up against a parade of his most well-known victims, Total Mayhem is one of the cooler games on the iPhone because it totally captures the console feel of games in the genre, while creating a strong Spider-Man story. The game also has great production values and looks really good on your iPhone, with a bright, comic-inspired graphical style.

You’ll take to the streets and beat up criminals, sling webs at enemies, swing through the streets of New York and use your Spider Sense to avoid danger. The combat found in the game is a lot of fun, and Total Mayhem nails the essence of playing as Spider-Man in a game. This is a great price for a great app, so grab it while you have the chance: especially if you’re a Spidey fanatic.

Shadow Guardian (iPhone, iPad) $0.99 (was $6.99)

Gameloft’s take on the PlayStation 3’s Uncharted series usually goes for the relatively high premium game price of $7, but it’s down to a mere fraction of that for a limited time. In Shadow Guardian, you play treasure hunter Jason Call as he works to stop mercenaries from retrieving an artifact that could help them take over the world.

You’ll get third-person gunplay in this action title, using various machine guns and other weapons, as well as some hand-to-hand melee combat for taking on enemies. Call travels around the world through the course of the adventure, and don’t be surprised if you even run up against undead adversaries before the story is finished. You’ll solve puzzles, find hidden treasures, and battle huge bosses along the way, as well.

UNO (iPhone) $0.99 (was $4.99)

Not up to scrapping with Rhino and Venom, or handling a machine gun and searching through dark tombs? Well, there’s always the classic card game UNO, only without cards and played on your iPhone, against either computer-controlled opponents or real human players using your iPhone’s Wi-Fi connection.

If you’ve played UNO before, you know what to expect here — a fast-paced game of punishing other players by skipping their turns and piling cards in their hands as you work to discard yours in order. You can play UNO the old-fashioned way, sure, but the game also lets you be the boss, allowing you to customize up to nine different rules to change up the way it plays.
