Download Discounts for Feb. 25: Modern Combat: Sandstorm, UNO, Star Battalion

Gaming fans! Mobile game developer Gameloft is running a big sale on about 30 games from its catalog, marking all of them down to $0.99. We’ve picked out three favorites here — including Modern Combat and UNO — but check out what else is on offer by entering Gameloft into your iTunes search bar in the App Store.

Modern Combat: Sandstorm (iPhone) $0.99 (was $4.99)

A first-person shooter in the style of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Modern Combat: Sandstorm features some intense shooter action and gyroscopic aiming controls, which allow you to physically move your iPhone around in order to draw a bead on enemies’ heads. The game’s got a 10-mission campaign mode and is loaded with weapons and grenades for you to use to take down the enemy.

When you’re sick of shooting at computer-controlled opponents, jump online and join a match in Modern Combat’s multiplayer mode, which supports four-player free-for-all games or two-on-two team deathmatches. And if you’re not a fan of the gyroscope controls, Modern Combat features two different options, so you can find what best allows you to shoot a lot of guys most easily.

UNO (iPhone, iPad) $0.99 (was $4.99)

Seems like UNO, the classic card game in which your goal is to empty your hand of cards while making the other three players’ lives more difficult, is on sale a lot. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t jump on it when you have a chance, because this app pretty accurately captures the card game, without actually having to touch cards.

UNO will let you play against computer opponents, sure, but it also features a pretty big strong multiplayer mode, in which you can use your Wi-Fi connection to take on human players from around the world — and crush them beneath the weight of a huge handful of UNO cards.

Star Battalion (iPhone) $0.99 (was $6.99)

This space combat simulator also uses gyroscopic controls to let you drive a starfighter and take on enemy ships. You’ll get access to four different ships over the course of several missions. Star Battalion packs some very pretty 3D graphics, and missions take place over a variety of terrains and locales.

Better than pretty sights, however, is Star Battalion’s multiplayer mode. You’ll get online or local cooperative play, using the Internet, a local Wi-Fi network or Bluetooth, allowing you to experience Star Battalion’s missions with a wing man. This is a great chance to snag a space fighter game and convince a friend to do it on the cheap, as well.
