The great musical instrument app Ocarina is on sale for a limited time and takes the lead in our Download Discounts today. We’ve also come across a couple of useful free apps to keep your iOS devices running in top shape, as well as to make sure you don’t accidentally exceed your data plans.

Ocarina (iPhone) Free (was $0.99)

Smule’s super-cool iPhone music app, which turns your device into the flute-like instrument known as the ocarina, is free for a limited time. You can go ahead and stop reading to go download it, but only if you promise to come back.

You play the iPhone ocarina by touching various spots on the screen, which represent the holes in the flute. Blowing into the iPhone microphone is like blowing into the instrument. Tilting allows you to adjust the vibration of sound that the app puts out. If you’d rather just listen to ocarina music, the app lets you do that, too. And you can record yourself and share your performances with others through the Internet.

Data Control App (iPhone) Free (was $0.99)

This app, which is free for a limited time, tracks your phone’s data usage to help you avoid overages on your data plan. The app will warn you when you’re approaching your mobile data cap, so that you aren’t charged the insane fees per megabyte when you go over what you’re allowed. The app also gives you projections of your monthly usage, allowing you to choose the plan that’s right for you instead of overpaying.

The app works in the background in order to keep you apprised of your usage via notifications. It also keeps track of your Wi-Fi traffic over your device as well, and breaks all the data down by day, week, month and year.

Amber Battery Pro (iPhone, iPad) Free (was $0.99)

Here’s another handy utility app, designed to help maximize your iPhone’s battery life. It has cool features, like an alarm to let you know when your device is fully charged so that you don’t overcharge it and damage the battery.

You can tap open the app at any time to get an exact reading on your app’s battery life as it discharges; and Amber Battery also has tips and information about maximizing your battery life to make sure your device lasts as long as possible.
