We’ve got some great apps for a buck or less for you in today’s Download Discounts. Mortal Kombat 3 recently hit the App Store. It’s one of the best and most popular fighting games ever, and has a similarly awesome price — 99 cents. The iPad-only magazine Project is on sale for the holidays, and we’ve also got a great, all inclusive travel app to help you with any flying you’ve yet to do before the start of the New Year.

Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (iPhone, iPad) $0.99 (was $6.99)

When it comes to fighting games, the undisputed champion for many a kid growing up in the 1990s was Mortal Kombat 3. Now the gory arcade masterpiece is available on your iPhone, and what’s more, it’s available at a crazily reduced price. If you like video games at all, you should immediately jump on this deal.

Electronic Arts has brought back the original cast of 13 fighters, including the iconic Sub Zero and hellacious Scorpion, as well as the game’s 10 battle arenas. As always, you can claw your way through the tournament in the single-player story campaign, or take the fight to your friends and enemies over a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connection. There’s also a time-trial game mode that has you earning points as you fight for quick, stylish victories. And as always, Ultimate MK3 has all the awesome “Finishing Move” variety you’ve come to expect from the franchise.

Project (iPad) Free (was $2.99 in-app purchase)

The experimental iPad culture and entertainment magazine, Project, is free for the holidays, giving you a chance to take a look at the magazine’s first issue, and figure out whether its for you, for no cost. The update to free has also decreased the file size of the inaugural issue to make it easier to download.

The first run of Project features actor Jeff Bridges from his new movie, TRON: Legacy, and focuses on arts and entertainment as well as international culture. The mag is the brainchild of Virgin’s Richard Branson and also features video, slideshows, and other designed-for-iPad content with each issue.
