Download Discounts for Dec. 17: Madden NFL 11, Shell Shock, Slow Shutter Cam

Two bucks will net you all three apps on today’s Download Discounts list, including EA’s Madden NFL 11, an iOS version of the massively popular football game. We’ve also got another interesting, free game, and an app that helps out with some of the lacking elements of the iPhone’s camera. Hit the list below for details on all of them.

Madden NFL 11 (iPhone) $0.99 (was $2.99)

Electronics Arts is running a huge sale of its games right now, reducing tons of them to just a dollar. Among them is Madden NFL 11, an iPhone port of the popular console football simulator. It includes a lot of the features that make the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 titles such big hits, and comes with four available game modes, including an online head-to-head multiplayer mode.

Madden comes up with updated stats from current football teams and their players to simulate the NFL on your iPhone. It also includes touchscreen controls, like the ability to draw routes for your receivers on the fly, to make it a unique experience similar to what you get on the console versions, but also unique to iOS devices. At a dollar, it’s definitely worth checking out.

Shell Shock (iPhone, iPad) Free (was $1.99)

Free until January 1st is Shell Shock, a simple but entertaining turret shooter which actually makes geometry kind of interesting — because things blow up spectacularly at the end.

You man a stationary turret with enemy structures positioned around the screen — you’ve got to take them out with only the ammo you have on hand by estimating the angle you’ll need to get your missile to arc to your target, and the power level each will need to get there without overshooting. The targeting is meticulous, because all the structures and even your turret are very small. But Shell Shock is a fun, easy going game, and has some beautifully rendered explosions to reward you as you blast each building. It also uses OpenFeint to supply it with online leaderboards and achievements.

Slow Shutter Cam (iPhone) $0.99 (was $1.99)

The iPhone’s camera is pretty versatile for being attached to a cell phone, and while the latest versions of iOS devices can shoot video, you can’t make many adjustments to the camera in order to do a lot of the things you could with a standard or digital camera. Slow Shutter Cam corrects at least one part of that, by allowing you to slow down the shutter speed of the iPhone’s camera for longer exposures. The app allows more light to hit the lens, resulting in photos in which motion seems to blur and light tracks over the shot.
