Occasionally, when you’re stuck inside a commuting metal tube or waiting in line at the DMV, is there a better way to counteract the indignities of modern life than a shot of adrenaline provided by The Discovery Channel? Now you can take those joys of life everywhere with The Discovery Channel app for iPhone, available for free.

Roar along with programs such as “Man vs. Wild,” “Mythbusters,” “Dirty Jobs,” “Deadliest Catch” and of course programs related to Shark Week, which can add spice to any mundane day.

The opening screen of the app is the familiar Discovery Channel logo, and the five buttons below direct you easily to the goods. “Latest Videos,” “Shows,” “News,” “Most Viewed” and “More” allow an all-inclusive look at one of America’s favorite basic cable channels.

Latest Videos is simply the latest vid downloads the app provides. You never know what will appear.

Shows provides a little more control. Want to almost smell the dudes from “Mythbusters?” Check out highlights of their incisive show. Besides programming, information is available on the cast and the show. There’s even a quiz to test your show knowledge.

News provides general updates on your favorite Discovery Channel shows (Which deadliest catch will it be this week? Please, anything with teeth).

And finally, Most Viewed catalogs your favorites and More is an all-source for specifics such as photos, schedules, quizzes and paraphernalia.

So surburban boredom and urban angst begone! The Discovery Channel app will place you in the danger zone.
