Could FanSnap be the Google of online ticket resale?

Everyone’s been there a time or two: shut out from a live event you really wanted to go down and willing to pay almost anything to get inside. But why should you pay almost anything? There are more than enough online ticket brokers, so paying 300 percent of the face value on a concert ticket or sporting event shouldn’t be your first inclination.

FanSnap gives users the opportunity to bargain hunt their aftermarket ticket prices. Instead of hooking you up with StubHub or eBay or another market place, the FanSnap app aggregates more than 10 different ticket resalers to give you the best opportunity to get into the show you’re dying to see. The app works as promised, too. Searching for events is easy, either by typing keywords into a search box or using one of the buttons customized to your location. That means Chicago users get buttons for the Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls, White Sox and Cubs, along with the usual options for concerts and theater tickets.

There is even a handy filter if you want to see, say, all rock concerts between a specific date range. The filter even goes so far as to let you select specific cities. If you’re visiting somewhere, FanSnap has you covered, as well. While the app defaults to only show you events near your current location, you can turn that off and see events taking place wherever you like. Everything in the app is very user-friendly.

If I could levy one complaint, it would be the lack of an alert feature. Maybe I want to know when tickets for a specific event will be available. There’s no way to find out unless I keep checking. Some sort of text-alert or in-app notification would put FanSnap over the top.

As it is, if you’re looking for a gateway to numerous ticket resellers, FanSnap appears to be a fantastic option. Sure it hurts to pay more than face value, but if you’re going to take that plunge, you might as well get the best deal.
