If you have a Yahoo! account, than Yahoo! Messenger is a must-have app for your iPhone. One of the cooler features of this app is that an idle status automatically activates if you get a phone call while in the middle of an instant message conversation.

The social networking application helps you find other Yahoo! travelers, and then send text and instant messages once you locate them. Once signed into your Yahoo! account, fellow Yahoo! members are displayed just as they are on webmail. Also like the Web page, Yahoo! Messenger displays icons and status updates. Modifications are made just by tapping the top purple Yahoo Messenger bar.

Do you need to send a Web link or photo while you are sending an instant message? With this app, that process is as easy as typing the link. Photos from the iPhone are easily sent as well. Just access the photo and the link is created.

Among the additional bonus features is the ability to archive instant messages (just tap on the “messages” button, then hit “contact” and the conversation appears right where it left off).

The ability to send free text messages to other Yahoo! Messenger users is literally priceless. The app features a toggle button that rotates from text to instant messaging platforms. Text messages can be sent directly to a recipient’s phone and the return message will also come right back to the app. You even have the option to type in a recipient’s phone number and send the text that way.
