Carzar iPhone app crashes and drives us nowhere

Carzar: Cars Rule, So Can You! It calls itself “the first social automotive app.” It’s a free app for car enthusiasts who like to look at cars, and comment on them.

The idea is that while you’re out and about, you see a really nice car, take a picture of it, and upload it to Carzar. There your friends will comment on it, like or dislike it, and help you tag it. I can see where car enthusiasts could enjoy this app, but there are some fundamental issues that need to be addressed. First the pictures are too small to really see the car very well. That’s not so much the fault of the app as it is the person taking the photo. It would be great if after the photo is processed and uploaded the viewer could enlarge it. The quality of the photos aren’t very good, most of the cars look like car salesmen took them. The other thorn is that you have to sign in before you use the app, and include some brief information about yourself, like what your first car was and what your favorite car is.  Once that’s done, you can proceed to uploading pictures, follow other members, and leave comments about other people’s pictures. This helps others connect with you on that level. There are links to Facebook and Twitter to find more friends if you’d like. However, when I pressed the Twitter button, the app crashed.

The app is functional, but a little weak on design. The real problem is the fact that there isn’t enough content to look at. And so you see the same cars over and over. It would be nice if there were a pre-built database of cars that people could look at and comment on.

There’s a badges tab, but it’s not clear how you obtain badges.
