Cartoon Wars merges stick figures and defensive real-time strategy to give you an iPhone gamer’s game.

You are an army of stick figures sick and tired of the violent oppression of your rival tribe. A series of battles happen between two castles on opposite sides of a Braveheart-like field. Both tribes run to the center for combat as you control a mounted bow on your tower to launch arrows over your men—just be careful not to hit them. By sending more and more warriors, you must push back the enemy and destroy their castle first to advance to the next round. Lose once and you’re back to square one.

The game has unlimited levels, but stays fresh because of the money you earn from your plunder, which you can use to upgrade to more advanced warriors like ninjas, gunners and wizards.

However, its interface is a little clumsy, especially the aiming controls for the mounted bow, which can be more frustrating than challenging.

The trick is to send as many warriors to fight as possible, but it’s not that simple. The more advanced warriors you send, the longer intervals you have to wait before you can send more fighters, making this a game of strategy and risk.

At 99 cents, Cartoon Wars is ranked among the top 100 paid apps in more than 40 countries, according to the game’s description. It’ll keep you entertained for weeks, as long as you’re willing to, you know, stick with it.
