Cake Doodle app perfect for budding cake decorators

If cake decorators thought they had a hard time pleasing customers before the 99-cent Cake Doodle app, they haven’t seen anything yet. Sure, a grouchy customer describing their ideal cake seems tough, but what about a customer who has designed their perfect cake and starts emailing the design to their decorator? Look out, because this is our new reality with the wildly comprehensive Cake Doodle.

Cake Doodle lets you design a cake from the ground up, from choosing the type of cake you want, the style of the cake, and then ultimately the decoration of the cake. If you’re a fan of “Ace of Cakes” or similar TV shows, this is probably the perfect app for you.

You start first by picking your preferred cake type, ranging from Chocolate all the way to Peanut Butter, with several of the usual choices in-between. From there, you’ll see a list of ingredients that you have to mix together to get your cake batter started.

While some ingredients can simply be finger-dragged into your digital mixing bowl, others will need to be grated (like the carrots for a carrot cake) or poured (like milk or vegetable oil). It’s not necessary, and you can use actually use an “instant” cake mix if you don’t really want to bother with this part of the app, but it’s pretty amusing never the less.

From there, you’ll get to choose the style of cake. Options range from round to multi-tiered round, sheet cakes, and then more artistic twisted round and square cakes. Once you’ve decided on your style (and thrown it into the oven to bake, naturally), you’ll finally get to decorate.

There are decorating options aplenty in Cake Doodle. You can choose from over 45 frosting colors, and there are three different styles of frosting that you can use to decorate the cake. Whether you would prefer a fondant look or buttercream look for your fake cake, you can have your (virtual) cake and (not really) eat it, too.

There are also several decorating stamps, including various flowers, letters and numbers to aid in your cake making. Finally, there are more sophisticated, pre-colored decorations like numbered candles, as well as plastic brides and grooms. While you can’t change the color of the pre-made plastic flowers, you’re able to use any of the available colors to change the stamp-style designs.

Once your cake is made its just a few screen taps away from being saved in your photo album or, of course, e-mailed to whomever you like. While there’s no social media links here, that’s about the only thing Cake Doodle doesn’t have going for it.

Of course this app is going to appeal for the most part to folks who get a kick out of cake design, so it’s a bit of a shame in that respect that there aren’t more generic shapes for users to make really advanced designs, but you could make quite a few delicious looking cakes with this app.

Users looking for a fun cake designing experience will certainly get their money’s worth with Cake Doodle.
