Books and Books

SPL Mobile

While this likely will only work for you if you’re in Seattle hopefully your local library will get it’s own fancy app. You can’t actually get a library card through the app but you can manage your account, look up library locations, search the catalog and if you’re really confused even ask a librarian via IM, text or calling. This app is simply fantastic and a great example of how a library app should be.

Amazon App: shop, browse, scan, compare, and read reviews

Great, so you found a new to you book but do you really want to read it? I almost always use Amazon to see if books seem worth it. The user reviews aren’t always right on but they’re rarely way off. And hey, if your library doesn’t have the book you’re looking for you likely can get it here.

Stanza

Would you rather have the book on your phone? While this app may not be the app for run of the mill books it lists here because it’s the app for the less than average books. There are a ton of indie books accessible on this app so if you want to read something truly new, this is for you.

Sitting somewhere, unable to really pick up a book (you know, like at the airport with a bag so full you’re not certain it can hold even a pamphlet?). This app is the app for you. Take a picture of the cover and suddenly you have all the book information at your fingertips. Use this later to get the book from the library or from your local bookseller. Brilliant!
