Best blogs with apps for iPhone and Android

Bloggers are  taking advantage of unprecedented opportunities mobile apps are providing.

Blogs are increasingly accessible on the iPhone and Android-powered devices (though the variety available for the iPhone is far greater). Here are some blog-based apps worth checking out on both platforms.

Business and Technology

Tackling Web technology news with a business slant, the TechCrunch iPhone app brings you the latest news from its several categories of coverage. The iPhone app is free, and has a special feature for accessing and adding to the blog’s infamous comments stream.  Read news and get in on the action from a single point of access on your iPhone.

The Huffington Post is arguably the most successful blog of the last half decade. The Huffington Post iPhone app (free) lets you keep up with your favorite writers from the Web site. Select your category, share articles, and more. Still new, we may see more blog-turned-mobile iPhone apps from the Huffington network of properites in the future.

If you have an iPhone, then gadgets are probably of interest to you. Stay abreast of new trends with the Engadget app for the iPhone.  This free app will give you the latest news stories, photos and videos about up and coming tech toys. The Engadget iPhone app streams its show and podcasts, with social sharing options via Twitter and Facebook integration.

A business and marketing guru, Guy Kawasaki has a resourceful blog as well. The Guy Kawasaki blog iPhone app (free) gives you direct access to Kawasaki’s content, covering technology, entrepreneurial strategies and more.  Save your favorites, see what the world is saying about Kawasaki’s blog posts via Twitter, and share stories with friends.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The Lolcats combine cute with funny on their popular blog, I Can Has Cheezburger. With the Lolcats blog’s iPhone app, you can  read the latest captions on photos of people’s pets, and submit your own photos as well.  The I Can Has Cheezburger iPhone app (free) also allows you to add captions to photos submitted and shared through its iPhone app.

Another network of popular blogs, PopSugar, has applied its formula for success across multiple categories.  Access all of PopSugar’s content through PopSugar‘s free iPhone app.  From celebrity news to financial advice, the female-centric blog keeps you. Photos and articles can be viewed with the PopSugar iPhone app, with sharing options via email or social networks.

The free TMZ iPhone app gives you breaking celebrity news and gossip, complete with sections just for grainy photos and shaky videos.  There’s even a section for the TMZ television program, with additional options for sharing and bookmarking stories as well

Inviting traveling indie artists for a rest and a jam session, DayTrotter posts the impromptu music creations on its blog. The new DayTrotter iPhone app (free) gives you mobile access to the songs, articles about the artists, and other related news.  The iPhone app also lets you search artists and browse the music from participating artists.

The Lonely Android

Most top blogs have yet to create a Google Android-specific app, though third parties have made mobile apps that will gain you access to these blogs.  Developer Jamis Dean has launched several apps that do just this, including Celebrity Gossip (free at the iTunes App Store). As a new platform, however, several bloggers could take advantage of the opportunity, making content interactive while mobile.
