Beast Brawlers – Boring Battles for Beasts

Beast Brawlers is a real-time brawler game that is sure to get your adrenaline pumping, fighting to the death and… being a little bored.

Beast Brawler is an online real-time brawler game where you collect different beasts and train them for the battle of a lifetime as you take on players from across the world to become the ultimate killing machine and rise to stardom. Perform well in a battle and gain fans, which takes the place of levels as the more fans you have the more game features you unlock and the higher your ranking.

Each battle lasts two minutes and in this time your goal is to rack up more points than your opponents and kill them. The player with the most points at the end is not just the winner of the battle but also the winner of the fans’ hearts. During battles, helpful arrows appear on the screen showing you where the enemies are, which is a nice feature that prevents you from running around the map aimlessly for two minutes looking for someone to battle.

The controls couldn’t be easier to master with a joy stick off to the side of the screen to control your movement and a large button on the other side to trigger your beast’s special ability. The movement is smooth and gives you a real sense of control over your beast’s position in the battleground. The super simple controls do however cause one issue, that being a lack of true control over your beast’s actual battle tactics. The game uses auto attack, meaning that all you have to do is run your beast into your opponent and the rest of the hard work is done for you. There is, of course, your special ability which you can trigger, but for a game that’s main focus is battling this lack of control is disappointing.

Upon winning a battle, you are presented with a chest that contains valuable treasures; unfortunately, you must either pay in gems, also known as real money or wait an annoying three minutes for the chest to magically unlock on its own so you can see the content. This feels extremely annoying, as it causes you to take a break between each battle.

The gameplay quickly becomes repetitive and you really feel the grind as you play battle after battle in order to gain just a few fans each time. The battles are a constant cycle of steering your beast towards enemies, running into them, exploring the arena in order to collect speed and health boosts and ultimately exhausting your beast, causing him to rest and swapping him out for another beast in your collection before repeating the cycle again, all while trying to gain the most points. This isn’t helped by the matching system that appears to be almost entirely random, as you find yourself placed in a match with players who have double your number of fans and, as a result, upgraded beasts that you just can’t compete with.

If you’re looking for a simple brawler game that you are happy to either put a lot of time and effort into building up or a great deal of money then Beast Brawlers has the potential to be a really fun game but if you’re just looking for a light-hearted animal fighting game you will be sorely disappointed with Beast Brawler.
