At the gym or on the street, go the extra mile with iTreadmill

Everyone would be exercising if it was easy. And while iTreadmill: Ultra Pedometer w/ PocketStep can’t solve that problem, it will keep your workout objectives in line.

This fitness app is much more than a simple pedometer. The iTreadmill app uses the iPhone and iPod touch’s accelerometer to record each step, either for a walk or jog in your neighborhood or if you like to use a treadmill to run a mile or two.

With adjustable settings allowing for self-calibration of a user’s own footstep stride, the output data is spot-on. Users can easily view their distance, pace, speed, total time and amount of calories burned at any time. You can even store each workout in the app’s history, allowing for cumulative averages from past sessions.

In a head-to-head battle with a standalone pedometer, iTreadmill wins hands-down. In a recent test, iTreadmill was significantly more accurate in regards to actual distance covered. Why waste up to $40 on a pedometer while you can have this app for $1.99? (It is currently on sale for 99 cents.)

The only downside comes due to the iPhone’s operating systems inability to have multiple apps open at the same time, preventing you to run iTreadmill in the background when checking email, for instance. It does, however, allow for audio playback from the iPhone’s built-in iPod, which is a plus.

If you’re a fitness buff or just want to shed a few pounds, iTreadmill is an easy tool to use to achieve your goals.
