Adorable Doodle Dash! defies you not to love it

If you’ve every played Doodle Jump, this game will come naturally to you. Doodle Dash! by Beebe Games (99 cents in the App store) is a fun reversal of the popular Doodle Jump. Another one of those essential apps to quell the boredom as you wile away hour after hour. Just in time for Halloween, they’ve added a spooky, fun theme for your festive enjoyment. If you liked Doodle Jump, you will definitely enjoy Doodle Dash.

Tap the app, and you’ll be greeted by the Beebe games splash screen and then onto the OpenFeint sign in screen. If you already have an account, it will detect it, and you simply choose to use your account, and then proceed. You will find yourself on the home screen of the app. Touch Help in the upper right if you’d like a brief tutorial or tap Play to get started. The other buttons on the home screen are Options and the OpenFeint Achievements button.

Essentially, this game is an exact reversal of Doodle Jump. Instead of trying to get as high as you possibly can, your goal is to fall for as long as you can. In the standard theme, you’ll be collecting gems, perhaps stars as well, and avoiding everything else. (If you are in the Halloween theme, you’ll be collecting candy-corn, perhaps wrapped candy, and avoiding everything else.) As you progress in your never-ending downward fall, you will reach dashed lines that serve as check-points. You’ll receive point bonuses for each check-point that you cross.

The mechanics of the game are simple: Tilt your iOS device to move your Dash back and forth across the screen. In the Options, you can choose the sensitivity of the tilt functionality of the device; I found that the standard sensitivity was just right. You are also able to choose your character type and the theme type that you would like to play with.

It’s as simple as that. Fall forever and don’t hit stuff while collecting gems to your heart’s content. I liked this app overall as a slight change from the highly addictive Doodle Jump. The only thing I wish they had done was add more variations in gameplay! Everybody likes bonuses and abilities! However, as a 99-cent app, this is still a viable time-waster.
