Addictive iPhone games out to destroy free time

It takes will and determination, and ultimately a dead battery, to avoid the Sirens’ song of an addictive iPhone game.  These apps seduce us while we sit through lunch meetings and conference calls, sopping up every ounce of our free time.

This was a difficult list for me to create, given my Gamers Anonymous-worthy addiction to quality and challenging games.  Integrated with many of the iPhone’s unique features, such as the accelorameter, these addictive games offer pure adrenaline rushes for mobile users.

Car rides, waiting rooms and train stations are no longer threatening wastes of time.  Conquer your urge to play these addictive iPhone games the only way you know how — by beating your last high score.

Action-packed iPhone games

Fieldrunners is a great little strategy game for the iPhone, as you must find a way to prevent enemies from crossing your border by building a tower of defense. Create your own maze in order to take over resources needed to build towers. For $2.99, Fieldrunners is action-packed, making it a consuming and exciting game to play anytime.

A popular PC game, Peggle has proven worth on the iPhone as well. This fast-paced game app reels you in with creative game play and tons of bonuses. Duel mode lets you battle against friends to ramp up the craze factor.  Priced at $4.99, you will not mind buying this game again if you already had it for your PC.

iPhone games requiring concentration

For a slower-paced iPhone game that will literally rope you in, Zen Bound provides wooden objects which you must wrap up in rope. Covering as much of the object as possible, you collect points (blossoms) depending on your coverage percentage. Somewhat calming and also mesmerizing, Zen Bound will lull you at $4.99.

Sometimes considered more entertaining than the Boggle game from which it was inspired, WordFu adds a Kung Fu dynamic to the classic game.  Shake the word dice and create as many words as you can from the available letters. Challenge friends over WiFi and post scores on Facebook and Twitter, all for 99 cents.

Challenge and strategy iPhone games

An adorable array of characters are in your hands on their quest for the golden orchid. Rolando 2 lives up to its predecessor, broadening the playing aspects of the game adventure. Each level presents obstacles during the Rolandos’ journey, constantly challenging you in this $4.99 game. Optional-level skip keeps you from leveling out.

Frenzic is a quick-playing puzzle iPhone game. With color-coded pie pieces and five circles to place them, you race against the clock to match the direction and color of the pieces for major point scores. At $2.99, the game will provide hours of intense play.

The Sims 3 iPhone game is pleasantly similar to the original PC version, helping Sims fans to overlook the $9.99 price tag.  Create life stories for your customizable characters, helping them to reach their goals along the way. Send Sims to work, decorate their homes and enhance their social lives. Deep plot involvement keeps users coming back for more.

It is a good thing that this game’s car is made of jelly. Otherwise, navigating the physics of each level’s challenge would leave you with a wrecked car. JellyCar 2 for the iPhone features simple graphics that mimic the simplicity surrounding the mechanics of each level. Nevertheless, JellyCar 2 can get addictively challenging for a 99-cent iPhone app.
