Access the news with leNewz’s touch coverflow interface

LeNewz isn’t your typical news aggregator. Focusing on the U.S., UK and France, the free app mines the Internet to find the latest news stories and hottest topics. These topics are sorted into six standard categories. Popular story subjects will be displayed as tappable words around each category, or you can tap on the category icon itself to see more subtopics.

Once you’ve selected a topic, you’ll see all its websites displayed as a swipeable coverflow. Tapping a news page loads it directly in-app. This can be a little slow, but the pages aren’t mobile versions. If an RSS icon appears at the bottom of a particular page, you can swipe it from bottom to top to display the full story within the coverflow screen.

LeNewz updates in real time, and there’s also a scrolling news ticker at the top of the homepage. However, the app only displays in landscape mode, which isn’t great if you’re holding a coffee or a handle on the bus. A bonus of leNewz’s design is that you can see at a glance what they day’s hot topics were, and the coverflow format is a nice twist on the usual list interface.

For now, what you see is what your get with leNewz, but according to developers, an update that allows users to customize the app with news topics and mark sources as their favorites is planned for the near future.
