5 Must Have Reference Apps for the College FROSH

Sep 12, 2011

These apps will make any 101 class much easier.

AllTheCountries: Countries of the World (Capitals, Flags, Maps)

If you love geography, travel, and facts then you’ll love this app. ALLTHECOUNTRIES is mostly made up of facts, but if I’m ever on Jeopardy and the category is flags, I’ll ace it.

Art History Test Lite

This app is a series of well-known paintings. Most of them will be recognizable and you will have some familiarity with the artist. What’s great about this app is that it also gives you the title of the painting, the year, and the medium! A must have for art lovers!

I have to admit, I’m a sucker for fact apps! Random info of any kind in short spurts makes me happy! Did you know that both humans and cats have identical regions in the brain responsible for emotion? Well, now you do!

Egyptian Gods

A very comprehensive description of Egyptian gods including the type of God and corresponding symbol. Categories include Fabulous creature, Demon, and Deity. Did you know that DUA is the Egyptian god of toilets?

Google Translate

The speech recognition feature is very, very impressive. Choose the language you speak and speak what you want it to translate. The translated text appears on the screen. Almost every language is included. My only wish is that my iphone would pronounce this new phrase, so that I could say it correctly. Either this feature is not included, or I can’t find it? Seems odd. Any suggestions? Of course you can also type in the text, but that’s just not as fun! WOW
