The Official Oscars iPhone app is the Academy’s official guide to the award show of the year

Not to be outdone, The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has released its official Oscars iPhone app, which joins the ranks of the plethora of red carpet-themed voting iPhone apps currently available for download in the iTunes store. The Oscars iPhone app is free and basically a tool to vote on all your favorite actors who you predict will take home the much-coveted golden statuette on March 7, 2010.

The iPhone app consists of sections to predict the winners, view the latest tally of winners by predictions, and a “nominated films” section, including a synopsis with nominations and a link to view the film’s trailer. It’s a simple iPhone app that lacks the virtual stock market fun of the L.A. Times’ “The Envelope” iPhone app and the Facebook chat section of the Vanity Fair Hollywood iPhone app. However, you can share your predictions by email, text and on Facebook or Twitter.

No bells and whistles here, just a simple companion to the film show of the year. So if you are looking for a simple way to prepare for Oscar night, download this free iPhone app and get voting!
