Swackett iPhone app serves up the weather in style

Swackett displays the current weather conditions as you’d expect from a normal weather app, but also offers up images of “peeps” who are dressed appropriately for the conditions. You can swipe through the peeps (a man, woman, dog and cat come standard) and swipe up and down to change their wardrobe. Although the clothes aren’t exactly stylin’, the visual cue is ideal for someone who’s in a hurry or for someone of a young age who is still learning about the concept of weather. If you want an outfit upgrade, you can purchase the 1950s edition for 99 cents.

Swackett offers hot buttons to see the current conditions along with today’s, tonight’s and tomorrow’s forecasts. If you tilt your device into landscape, you’ll be able to see a scrollable hour-by-hour forecast (and you can tap the panels to flip to see additional information such as humidity, dew point and wind conditions). This screen also displays a full five-day forecast for ease of planning.

I did find it a bit strange that this information is only accessible in landscape. This also offers updated information on weather watches and warnings, as well as radar and satellite imagery. Swackett includes plenty of sharing options, as well as color customization and the ability to save multiple locations.

Swackett is a fully comprehensive weather app, and its peep-twist gives it personality I haven’t seen in other apps in this ilk. swackett is ad-supported (removable for 99 cents), but its free download makes it an easy yes for those looking for a Weather Channel alternative.
