New iPhone apps worth downloading: Yahoo! Finance, Jinni My TV & Movie Guide, Bit. Trip Run!

Use today’s first fresh app to get all the information about the stock market you need. It’s Yahoo! Finance, and it packs stock quotes, news about the stocks you follow, and Push notifications and alerts to keep you up on the world of finance. We’ve also got iPad app Jinni My TV & Movie Guide, which works to bring you recommendations of what to watch, whether its on cable, network TV, or Netflix or Hulu. Finally, Bit.Trip Run! brings players into a side-scrolling platformer, in which keeping the beat of the music is key to success.

Yahoo! Finance (Free)

What’s it about? Keep track of the financial world with Yahoo! Finance, which brings users notifications, news stories, and, of course, stock quotes.

What’s cool? Yahoo! Finance brings users a view of the stock market that’s specifically catered to them. It starts with finding stocks that interest you or in which you’re invested. The app can bring you the usual, like stock quotes for a variety of businesses, as well as automatically track the ones in which you’re interested. Then, it sends you Push notifications about important updates, specifically finds news stories related to your stocks of interest, and makes available lots of real-time charts, so you can use all that information to make smart investing decisions.

Jinni My TV & Movie Guide (iPad) (Free)

What’s it about? Jinni provides users with a personalized guide to TV shows and movies across a huge number of providers, from cable to Netflix.

What’s cool? Flipping through channels and pouring through lists of movies and TV shows available to stream is totally boring, and what’s more, it never helps get you to watching something you’ll enjoy quickly. Jinni helps with skipping the search by providing users with recommendations about what they might want to watch, based on what they like, across a huge number of platforms – ranging from satellite dish and cable TV providers, to Hulu, Netflix, and other streaming services. You can also make a “wish list” of things you want to watch to be notified of when they’re on or available, receive reminders and alerts for when things are airing, and get recommendations not just for you, but for friends as well, for when you’re all watching together.

Bit.Trip Run! ($3.99)

What’s it about? Race past obstacles to the beat of the music in Bit. Trip Run!, a side-scrolling platformer in which rhythm is everything.

What’s cool? A challenging side-scrolling platformer, Bit.Trip Run! almost resembles an endless runner, in that your job is to avoid obstacles by jumping and sliding while your character move at a constant speed on his own. The game includes 300 different levels to work through, plus several “challenge” levels that amp up the difficulty, and unlockable characters you can earn through your performance in different levels. Bit.Trip Run’s developers also have plans to release more content for free in the future – just keep in mind that you’ll need an iPhone 4S or iPad 2 or better to play.
