New iPhone apps worth downloading: Umano: News Read to You update, Infinity Blade III, Angry Birds Star Wars II

We’ve got a couple of huge games to talk about on today’s Apps Worth Downloading list. First, though, you might want to check out Umano, an app that turns those news articles you like to read into news articles you can have read to you by real people. Once you’ve got the important stuff out of the way, fire up Infinity Blade III, the conclusion to the super-popular and gorgeous sword dueling series, and Angry Birds Star Wars II, a big expansion on the great gameplay that was introduced in the first Angry Birds Star Wars.

Umano: News Read to You update (Free)

What’s it about? Get the news by having it read aloud to you, rather than reading it, with the help of news app Umano.

What’s cool? There’s a flood of great news content available online every single day, but it has a drawback – you have to read it all (or, perhaps, watch it in the form of videos). That’s not really conducive to doing other things, however, like driving or working, and it’s not so useful to people who can’t see or read screens. Umano helps with that problem by providing news articles that are read by real people. You can make a playlist of articles you want to listen to and stream them, or download them to listen offline, and search for articles that are of particular interest to you. The app has just received an update to make it compatible with iOS 7.

Who’s it for? Anyone who might prefer listening to the latest news articles rather than reading them should check out Umano.

Infinity Blade III ($6.99)

What’s it about? The third installment of the critically acclaimed Infinity Blade series brings its story to an end, and packs more intense swipe-based dueling action.

What’s cool? The Infinity Blade series is all about one-on-one sword duels with huge enemies, and Infinity Blade III packs plenty more of those for longtime fans. Now with two different playable characters, you’ll fight through tons of duels by dodging, blocking and parrying attacks before making your move and defeating your enemies. Infinity Blade III is much bigger and more expansive than its predecessors, and includes a Hideout that will serve as players’ base of operations and which can be improved over time. You can also participate in multiplayer events called clashmobs.

Who’s it for? If you liked the earlier Infinity Blade titles, you’ll want to grab the latest and greatest version.

What’s it like? Don’t forget to grab Infinity Blade and Infinity Blade II.

Angry Birds Star Wars II ($0.99)

What’s it about? Another major sequel, Angry Birds Star Wars II takes players to the world of the Star Wars prequel trilogy with new characters and mechanics.

What’s cool? Angry Birds Star Wars was a big step forward for Angry Birds because of the addition of new elements, like characters who carry lightsabers and blasters and use Force powers. In Angry Birds Star Wars II, there are more new characters with more new abilities, but the real fun is in the ability to join the “Pork Side,” and play through a number of levels as Star Wars baddies such as Jango Fett and Darth Maul. With lots of new levels and challenges, Angry Birds Star Wars II takes what made its predecessor great and continues to expand it.

Who’s it for? If you’re into Angry Birds at all, you need to grab this one. Star Wars fans will also have a good time.

What’s it like? Also worth your attention are the original Angry Birds Star Wars and Angry Birds Space.
