Quora update (Free)

What’s it about? Social network Quora is all about asking and answering questions as a community, with each user giving their expert knowledge on a variety of subjects.

What’s cool? Quora’s user interface was revamped, making the network easier to navigate. The app lets you search through various topics and ask questions, as well as follow other users as you do. The ap was optimized for iPhone 5, and allows you to follow questions (or ask them) anonymously. You can also share your questions and answers on other social networks, such as Facebook and Twitter.

Who’s it for? Social network junkies should find something to enjoy with Quora, since it’s a little more intellectual than the standard fare like Facebook.

What’s it like? Check out Twitter and Facebook for more social networking, and Answers: powered by Yahoo! Answers for another Q&A community.

Crabby Writer: Phonics Read and Write ($0.99)

What’s it about? Educational app Crabby Writer works to teach young children the basics of reading and writing.

What’s cool? Crabby Writer presents reading and writing as a game for kids that helps them learn as they play. In the game, players match words, pick vocabulary words out of images, and learn how to spell. The game is beach-themed, and kids can write words in the sand on the screen, as well as add sea shells with letters for spelling practice.

Who’s it for? Kids learning to read are the target audience.

What’s it like? For helping kids to learn to read, try the Dr. Seuss-based app The Lorax and ABC Spelling Magic 2.

From the Appolicious Community: Ten Giggly Gorillas from Wasabi Productions offers a complete sensory reading experience and with text highlighting, positive social / moral lessons and 100% family-friendly features, it’s an excellent choice. It’s also on SALE this week for $0.99 (usually $2.99) so why not download today to enjoy with your 2-6 year old!

Motley Blocks ($2.99)

What’s it about? Puzzle game Motley Blocks requires players to clear a rotating screen of cubes by drawing lines between groups of the same color. You only have a limited amount of time to clear them all.

What’s cool? The cloud of blocks rotates slowly, and you only get a certain number of “laps” to clear out the blocks as the whole thing spins. The more blocks you can combine by drawing a line between them, the more points you earn. There are also power-ups you can grab by drawing a line through them, as well, to kick up your score, add multipliers, and clear more blocks.

Who’s it for? Motley Blocks is aimed at casual gamers, as its “puzzles” are more about action than about logic or solutions.

What’s it like? The premise here is similar to Flight Control in that the key is drawing lines to link different elements.
