New iPhone apps worth downloading: Photopoll update, Might & Magic Clash of Heroes, Traal

Start your day with Photopoll, an app that lets you use images to ask questions of your friends across social networks. Two great games made the cut: Might & Magic Clash of Heroes, a deep role-playing title with match-3 gameplay, and Traal, a top-down survival-horror game.

Photopoll update (Free)

What’s it about? As you might have guessed, Photopoll is a photo-sharing app that allows you to ask questions and get input from other users.

What’s cool? Photopoll is for sharing your photo-laced polls through the app’s social network. As you might guess, you also have the ability to vote in other people’s polls and give opinions about the questions they’re askingl. Photopoll sports filters for spicier photos, and you can find the right images for your polls through Instagram and Amazon. The app’s latest update has squashed some bugs and improved performance, as well as fixed Facebook connectivity so you can share your polls across the social network.

Who’s it for? This app is for those interested in a novel social network, as opposed to the same old social media outlets. It’s useful for getting numerous second opinions.

What’s it like? You can also do some social polling with the help of Voto and Polar.

Might & Magic Clash of Heroes (Free)

What’s it about? Puzzler-slash-role-playing title Might & Magic Clash of Heroes uses a little match-3 gameplay on the surface, but it’s really an involved RPG with a deep story.

What’s cool? Originally appearing on the Nintendo DS and Xbox Live and the Playstation Network, Clash of Heroes keeps its role-playing combat fresh with puzzle gameplay. You move your troops around different battles, with the units all carrying different color codes. Your job is to match the colors in order to utilize the units, but there’s more strategy than just cramming units onto the grid. The way that you align them (vertically or horizontally) affects their actions (like attack or defense). According to its developers, Clash of Heroes’ story will last you 20 hours, and you’ll be upgrading your units along the way like in most RPGs.

Who’s it for? This game is definitely for fans of RPGs, match-3 games, and anyone who likes strategy games.

What’s it like? More match-3 strategy can be found in Pixel Defenders Puzzle.

Traal (Free)

What’s it about? A top-down survival horror game, Traal is about exploring a strange dungeon and avoiding monsters.

What’s cool? You don’t have anything in the way of self-defense in Traal, and your only weapon in the game is your wits. It has players exploring a dungeon from a top-down perspective (sort of like the original Legend of Zelda), and players have to navigate the twisting corridors while avoiding harmful things. Your only control is to move your thumb around the screen to adjust the way your character and his flashlight face. Casting light on certain enemies can send them after you, so part of the challenge of the game is navigating in such a way that you stay hidden from bad guys in the dark.

Who’s it for? If you like survival-horror titles or top-down titles like Zelda, try Traal.

What’s it like? Block Rogue also has a similar vibe to Traal, and MacGuffin’s Curse uses some of the same kinds of mechanics, but with a humorous tone.
