New iPhone apps worth downloading: Office Mobile, Avengers Alliance, Bucketz Ride

Microsoft has finally brought some semblance of its Office software to iOS users with Office Mobile, today’s leading app worth downloading. You’ll need a subscription to Microsoft’s Office 365 to use it, though, so keep that in mind. Following that is Avengers Alliance, a role-playing title based on some of Marvel’s most beloved superheroes. Finally, we’ve got Bucketz Ride, a casual game in which players have to fill buckets with falling debris in order to keep a seesaw balanced.

Avengers Alliance (Free)

What’s it about? A turn-based role-playing take on the superhero team known as The Avengers, Avengers Alliance has players gathering together Marvel superheroes to fight enemies.

What’s cool? The Avengers – Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Captain America and Black Widow – face a new threat in Avengers Alliance, and you have to team up with the squad as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., leading a party of superheroes into battle. Avengers Alliance is a turn-based RPG, which means that each character on your team and your enemies make their moves in order based on their stats. You can use items and various weapons to give yourself an edge in battle, as well as various heroes that you recruit along the way. You can also face off against other players in an online multiplayer mode. Just note that Avengers Alliance is a free-to-play game, and uses that “energy” mechanic to make you wait to play if you’re unwilling to pay.

Who’s it for? Fans of The Avengers and role-playing titles might have some fun with Avengers Alliance.

Bucketz Ride (Free)

What’s it about? The sequel to Bucketz, players’ job in Bucketz Ride is to drop objects into a set of three buckets in order to keep them balanced.

What’s cool? Bucketz Ride is all about balance. The game presents players with a seesaw beam on which sit three bucket characters, and the goal of the title is to allow the seesaw to fly up as high as it can go. The trouble is, all kinds of objects go flying through the air over the buckets, often falling into them. Your job is to keep the seesaw balanced by catching the objects and dropping them into the proper bucket. There are a ton of hazards to deal with of different sizes, and power-ups that can help give you an edge or save you from disaster. You can also score tons of points by keeping an eye out for special items that you can snag and drop into your buckets along the way.

Who’s it for? Casual game fans will find Bucketz Ride’s mix of fast-pace and easy gameplay to be good for killing a few minutes with fun.

What’s it like? Bucketz is also a fun take on the same material, but with different challenges.
