New iPhone apps worth downloading: CloudOn update, Ravensword: Shadowlands, Anomaly Korea

Since the world didn’t end, it’s time for more holiday travel. You should be relaxinf, but in case you’d rather get some work done, check out CloudOn. It brings Microsoft’s Office to your iOS devices and integrates with lots of cloud services. If you’d rather take it easy, we’ve got two great games: Ravensword: Shadowlands, a huge action-role-playing game similar to Skyrim, and Anomaly Korea, a reverse tower defense game and sequel to exceptional Anomaly: Warzone Earth.

CloudOn update (Free)

What’s it about? Productivity app CloudOn brings you access to Microsoft Office software on your iOS devices.

What’s cool? The ability to be productive on the software you already use and like is a pretty cool thing. The app lets you make use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint on your mobile device, and links in with cloud storage services such as Dropbox, Box, Google Drive and SkyDrive. The app’s 3.0 update makes it accessible from lots more devices, including the iPad mini and iPhone 5, so you can be productive from anywhere. It also includes email support so you can easily share what you’re working on.

Who’s it for? If you like to work from your mobile device but find yourself hamstrung by a lack of Microsoft Office capabilities, you’re in luck with CloudOn.

Ravensword: Shadowlands ($6.99)

What’s it about? The follow-up to the action-role-playing game Ravensword has been described by some reviews as “The Elder Scrolls (the Skyrim franchise) of mobile RPGs.”

What’s cool? Ravensword: Shadowlands is a lot like some of the best console RPGS on the market. Players explore a huge, fully 3D world, wielding swords and bows while taking on enemies in dungeons and ruins. The graphics are awesome, as are the amount of features you’ll encounter – ranging from the ability to fight in first-person mode to pickpocketing and casting magic. There’s also an engaging story!

Who’s it for? If you’re a fan of titles such as Skyrim on consoles and PC, or just want to see what your mobile device is capable of delivering, check out Ravensword: Shadowlands.

What’s it like? Try developer Crescent Moon Games’ other action-RPGs, Ravensword: The Fallen King and Aralon: Sword and Shadow.

Anomaly Korea ($2.99)

What’s it about? The follow-up to the reverse tower defense game Anomaly: Warzone Earth takes players to Korea for more alien tower fighting action.

What’s cool? The Anomaly franchise uses great graphics and a set of rules that turn most tower defense games on their heads. Instead of being the one laying down towers, you’re commanding a convoy that moves slowly through the map, blasting enemy towers along the way. You can earn money as you go and spend it on various vehicles, but your primary strategy is in choosing the right route through the map (and changing it on the fly) to complete your mission. You can also deploy special power-ups, like repairs and smoke screens, to keep your convoy in fighting shape through each level.

Who’s it for? If you’re a tower defense fan, you should check out Anomaly Korea’s take on the genre.

What’s it like? Anomaly: Warzone Earth is also another solid title in the genre, as is Kingdom Rush.
