My Apps for SXSW

SXSW® GO – Official 2015 Mobile Guide to South By Southwest

This app is almost as scary as SXSW itself and for good reason. The website alone is a plethora of information. Remember that those 2 million events are housed somewhere and this is the place for many of them. I spent several hours going through events and added them to my personal calendar so this app will be useful while on the go to access these well laid plans. We’ll see if it means I actually make them all.

Plancast!

What isn’t in my schedule on the SXSW website/schedule/app is on Plancast. Many events are here and if you’ve got yourself a good guide (thanks Evonne!) this can be a wonderful way to find the events not listed at SX. Unfortunately my Plancast schedule is equally overwhelming.

GroupMe

If you do have a guide, or several, it’d be nice to send group texts and better yet, send texts without the text cost. This app does just this. It’s easy to use and worthwhile for any gathering. I can see this app being extremely useful for families trying to group back up at an event. Wonderful idea.

Hashable Mobile

I’m still a noob to this app but I do know that I like the way it encourages networking and introductions. The claim is that it gets rid of business cards and if so then great! I’ll see if this works for me while at SXSW but one way or the other I’m prepared with this on my phone.

Foursquare – Find Places to Eat, Drink, and Visit

Will the fight be on between Gowalla and Foursquare again this year? I’ve mainly stuck to FourSquare for daily use and even ran into friends in the same room thanks to this handy tool. I’ll likely still use it as not everyone is on this particular app.

Gowalla

The other big choice for location apps. I actually still need to install this back on to my phone but more of my SXSW friends seem to be on Gowalla than FourSquare so it seems that this may be the winner at this years SXSW. We’ll see!
