Mobile Roadie expands offering to iPad apps and mobile sites

From building official titles for the likes of Madonna and Adele, to helping the local dry cleaner establish a presence on a mobile device, Mobile Roadie is a leading app content management and development system. The company powers more than 3,000 applications that in aggregate have generated more than 20 million downloads.

Today, Mobile Roadie expands to include custom content management capabilities for iPad apps and mobile websites. The aim is to reduce the barriers of entry for businesses of all sizes and individuals to reach their constituencies on mobile devices.

“In general, mobile is still under-hyped,” said Michael Schneider, who co-founded Mobile Roadie in 2009 and serves as the company’s CEO.

Features for the iPad app development platform, which Mobile Roadie licenses for $499 per month (or $5,000 per year), include live navigation widgets, high-resolution graphics layers, and the ability to sync content across a universe of iOS and Android apps as well as mobile websites. The mobile website development tool, which can be licensed for $9 per month, is a quick and efficient way for any site to be contextually consumed on mobile devices.

Beverly Hills-based Mobile Roadie, which has 40 employees and is funded by high-profile angel investors including Ashton Kutcher and Madonna’s manager Guy Oseary, is in “growth mode” after being profitable for “most of 2011”, Schneider said. He added that entities without a significant mobile presence today were comparable to those that did not have a website in the late nineties.

“In ’95 and ’96, most brands were asking questions about the web, and by 2000 it was all over,” Schneider said. “We think it will be a mobile-first world, where the first touchpoint with consumers will be on mobile within the next 18 to 24 months. A lot of major brands have done something on mobile, but a lot of what they are doing is shrinking down their current website. It requires a different strategy. The closest thing to a geo-based push notification is an email blast or a tweet. It’s not enough to have something that looks OK, you have to engage with it.

Currently, it takes on average about an hour for a Mobile Roadie customer to create a live application.
