Login a snap on Bank of America – Mobile Banking app

Bank of America – Mobile Banking is currently the top free financial app in iTunes. I suspect this has more to do with the bank’s size than anything else. Still, Bank of America – Mobile Banking is a solid app that serves its users well.

For starters, the login and verification process is a snap. If Bank of America – Mobile Banking doesn’t recognize your device, it prompts the same verification questions used in its online banking site. This is a huge convenience. Also, if you save your user ID on your iPhone, the app obscures everything after the first four characters, a useful security measure.

Although I’m satisfied by what I can see of my account information, I’m disappointed that the current credit card balances don’t reflect temporary authorizations or pending payments. Bank of America – Mobile Banking recommends checking its online banking site or calling by phone for the most up-to-date information. Calling a telephone number to get account information is so 2006. Come on, BOA, you can do better.

The Locations Near Me function, on the other hand, works quite well. I wish the app would distinguish among freestanding and in-store banking centers, but that’s a small gripe in light of everything else. I especially appreciate the ability to search for ATMs and banking centers by entering an address or zip code. Bank of America – Mobile Banking also lets you search relative to your current location, but the ability to search other locations is useful when I travel.

Obviously, you’re not going to get this app if you’re not already a Bank of America customer, but if you are, Bank of America – Mobile Banking is a must-have for your iPhone.
