iPhone App Video Review: HBO GO

The app gives you access to more content than you’ll even know what to do with, and it’s all very well organized. The selection of movies is huge, and while not quite as impressive, there are tons of great documentaries and comedy specials as well. Where this app really shines is in the series section. Every single season of every single series is available at all times, from the classics like Band of Brothers or Six Feet Under, to more recent addictions like True Blood or the phenomenal new Game of Thrones. If you can’t tell, I’m a fan of most HBO shows, and for good reason. Access to all the ‘behind the scenes’ and ‘inside look’ specials is the icing on the cake. Note to any parents. There is a Late Night section featuring a pretty sizeable selection of Adult Entertainment, so if you have kids, make sure you set the parental controls and passwords before handing it off to them.

The app makes it easy to find whatever you might be interested in. You can look at the featured section to see what’s popular and new, or you can divide it up by categories. Of course, you can always just search for specific items directly. If you come across something you might want to watch later, you can add it to your watch list so you don’t forget. You can stack episodes of shows in the list if you want to marathon your way through them and you can also get a series pass to have new episodes put in the list automatically. The actual streaming quality is great too, and while things look pretty good on the iPhone, they look fantastic on the iPad.

The only downside to this app is that you have to have a subscription to HBO through your television service provider if you want access, so to say the app is totally free would be a lie. But yes, the app itself is totally free, so if you have HBO, you don’t really have an excuse not to have this app. If you are a fan like me, then check this app out.
