iPhone 5 rumor of the day: Curved-glass iPhone 5 coming

While nearly every indication points to Apple (AAPL) – at best – releasing a mild update to the iPhone 4 (billed the iPhone 4S), DigiTimes is reporting that the company’s Taiwan-based supply chain is tinkering around with a curved-glass model for an upcoming iPhone 5 release.

“Apple reportedly has purchased 200-300 glass cutting machines to be used by glass makers,” said the sources.

The DigiTimes report did not indicate a timetable for any potential curved-glass iPhone 5 release.

It is plausible that a curved-glass display iPhone 5 could be released later this year, then most pundits believe Apple will release a truly next generation device. Android devices, including the Google (GOOG) Nexus S, already offer this feature.

In any event, DigiTimes sources are indicating that Apple has purchased as many as 300 glass cutting machines to manufacture the device.
